While a jazz musician can hardly aspire to fly higher than Bird at his best, she can be inspired by his swooping, flurrying genius to explore new sectors of the sky. That’s the spirit animating this joint project of drummer Teri Lyne Carrington and alto sax player Rudresh Mahanthappa, the latter of whom has already reinvented Parker’s music in his iridescent 2015 release Bird Songs. —E.E.
