The Schwabing Art Trove was amassed by the museum director and art dealer Dr. Hildebrand Gurlitt—who was also an agent for the Third Reich. The 85 pieces in this exhibition include 17th-century Dutch still lifes, 18th-century Rococo pastels, and works by Manet, Monet, and Renoir, as well as Dix, Kokoschka, and Beckmann. How did Gurlitt get these pieces and who are the rightful owners? Research is ongoing, overseen by an international advisory board. —L.J.
