Between 1999 and 2013, “The (S) Files” exhibitions at Museo del Barrio became the platform for Latin American and Latino artists in New York. Looking to recreate the definitive energy of those shows, the museum has launched a new triennial and the first edition is now open. It takes its title from a satirical painting by the Chicago-based artist Candida Alvarez, created after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico. Alvarez’s work is called Estoy Bien—“I’m good”—but is pluralized here to mean “We’re good.” The themes in this exhibition are countless, with 42 artists spinning narratives about culture, gender, art and, importantly, diversity. —E.C.
