In their satirical sculptures, installations, and performances, the Scandinavian duo Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset reappraise mundane objects and designs. These are the men who brainstormed the “installed sculpture” Prada Marfa—a wildly out-of-place, non-functioning Prada boutique built in an empty stretch of southwest Texas—and Van Gogh’s Ear, the upright swimming pool at the Rockefeller Plaza. In their first exhibition in a U.S. museum, the pair’s sculptures comment on HIV and AIDS awareness, youth, aging, and gay rights. —E.C.
