Einstein on the Beach, by Philip Glass and Robert Wilson

Grand Théâtre de Genève / Geneva / Music

Back in 1976, when the trance-inducing, relentlessly nonlinear Einstein on the Beach was new, no one would have dreamed of replacing Robert Wilson’s stage pictures, ever. Fast forward to the present and this gigantic revolutionary theatrical experience has devolved into its words and music—a “text.” As such, it is now available for repackaging by brave new visionaries, as with this Swiss premiere in the charge of the director and lighting designer Daniele Finzi Pasca. —M.G.
