Dialogue

Rossi & Rossi / Hong Kong / Art

“A drawing is simply a line going for a walk,” Paul Klee once said. A bounty of curves and angles go for many walks in the work of Tibetan artist Tenzing Rigdol. He elevates into subject matter the textbook gridlines that guide the proportions of traditional Buddhist figures, and then weaves these grids into contemporary imagery, much as yarns are woven by Nepalese carpet makers (his own mother was a weaver). The exhibition’s title is “Dialogue,” and in Rigdol’s work, the past is speaking to the present, the spiritual to the political, and Tibet to China. —J.V.
