How do we make the future sustainable? How will we maintain intimate relationships at a distance? How can the world’s growing population be fed? Mankind faces a lot of pressing questions and it’s paramount to find answers. This exhibition poses speculative scenarios as a challenge to 80 designers from around the world. In 11 categories—Labors, Cities, Intimacies, Bodies, Powers, Earths, Foods, Materials, Generations, Informations, and Resources—exhibitors are challenged to find solutions to impossible quandaries. Among the exhibits: lab-grown food, a gene-editing toolbox, and a shoe grown from sweat. —E.C.
