DESCRIPTION:Aug 24\, 2026 - Apr 4\, 2027\nThe Dance Theatre of Harlem was f
ormed by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook in 1968\, an inspired response to
the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The company grew by leaps and
bounds\, and the fledgling company was soon one of the high points on the
classical dance landscape. And here they are\, 58 years later\, still tou
ring. Counting 10 stops across the country\, the last one in New York City
\, the DTH tour brings a repertory that includes its celebrated production
of Stravinsky’s Firebird\, with sets and costumes by Geoffrey Holder\,
recently re-created by his son\, the artist Leo Holder. George Balanchine
’s Donizetti Variations upholds the company’s stylistic connection to
the New York City Ballet\, and Return\, choreographed in 1999 by DTH artis
tic director Robert Garland\, rounds out the program.
