DESCRIPTION:Sep 10-13\, 2026\nThe fourth in Bill T. Jones’s “Curriculum
” series has such a cheerily exclamation-laden subtitle—Spin and Spin!
Turn! Turn! Turn!—that you might not recognize the allusion to Ecclesia
stes\, history’s first recorded nihilist. To the governing question of t
he Curricula pieces\, “What does a contemporary progressive person have
to know to live and work efficiently and morally in the world today?\,”
the preacher from the fourth century B.C. basically answered: Nothing. The
re is nothing you can do about anything\, so live however you like. Perhap
s not such bad advice for our wretched current moment\, but like any good
curriculum\, Spin and Spin! doesn’t limit itself to right now. In fact\,
the solo—danced by Jones\, charisma itself—had its beginnings in 2001
\, when the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) commissioned a piece\,
to premiere on September 12. Yes\, that September 12. This is the rainche
ck. In Jones’s usual elliptical fashion\, where he talks about one thing
and dances another\, he will meditate on how America got from there to he
re\, and where\, if we survive the present mire\, we might go next. The ba
ckdrop is the Statue of Liberty\, and live music is by the millennial lode
star and jazz composer Samora Pinderhughes.
