Coppélia

Royal Ballet / London / Stage

A much-loved production that dates to 1954—and has been maintaned in company repertory since 1954—this Coppélia was staged by the Royal’s founding director Ninette de Valois (after Nicholas Sergeyev). The multi-talented Sir Osbert Lancaster, an architectural historian and a cartoonist of delightful intricacy, designed the charming sets and costumes. —L.J.
