Chicken & Biscuits

Until
Circle in the Square Theatre / New York / Stage

A comedy set at a funeral! Chicken & Biscuits looks at a family’s failed attempt to keep peace at their father’s funeral. Beverly, the favorite child, uses the occasion to show off her bod with a revealing outfit, while teenage granddaughter La’Trice is a complete busybody. Featuring the Tony Award-nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess) in his first Broadway play, and the always ebullient Michael Urie, the drama comes to a head when a family secret is revealed during the service. With this premiere, Douglas Lyons—at just 27 years old—becomes the youngest Black director in Broadway history. —J.D.
