Bridget Riley’s work is about visual manipulation, and through these manipulations, discovery. “The eye can travel over the surface in a way parallel to the way it moves over nature,” Riley has said. This major retrospective ranges from Riley’s Pop Art black-and-white paintings to her color canvases and recent wall paintings. “Feel caressed and soothed,” the artist advises the viewer, “experience frictions and ruptures, glide and drift.” —E.C.
