Brian Rattiner, born in Brooklyn in 1982 and educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, is a nature painter, but don’t expect landscapes in the traditional sense of the word. Rattiner aims to evoke the sensory density one feels in a field or forest, the atmosphere of creaturely presence and movement—echolocation made visible. The works in this exhibition, influenced by Rattiner’s recent residencies in Colorado and Maine, bring color pencil, charcoal, oil pastel, oil stick, and marker together in a realm of heightened energy and perception. —L.J.
