Masters of perception James Turrell, Mary Corse, Sam Gilliam, and Peter Alexander are united in the exhibition “Bloom of Joy.” While Turrell, Alexander, and Corse are pioneers of the 1960s Light and Space movement, Gilliam is best known for abstract works of rapturously kinetic color. All manipulate light—capturing it, sustaining it, refracting it—and are engaged with the question: How is color carried? The works here, intense yet benevolent, transform the gallery space into an absorbing escape. —E.C.
