BlackStar Film Festival

BlackStar / Online

“The format might be different,” says Maori Karmael Holmes, the artistic director & CEO of the BlackStar Film Festival, “but our nearly decade-long mission of centering and celebrating the voices of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people from around the world is not.” BlackStar was one of the first festivals to pull ethnic minority members into the spotlight, exclusively featuring the work of African American and indigenous film artists. This year’s edition, the ninth, takes place online and promises to be more dynamic than ever, numbering 90 films, live panels, interviews with prominent industry movers, and special events. —E.C.
