Bharti Kher: A Consummate Joy

Irish Museum of Modern Art / Dublin / Art

British-Indian artist Bharti Kher is famous for her magical-realist work, which finds form in sculpture, painting, watercolor, and installations. Found objects are often combined with historical and Buddhist relics. Of her exhibition in Dublin, Kher says, “Ireland has always been an interest for me in its similarities to ancient Indian history and mythologies; from the worship of pagan goddesses to the practice of oral storytelling and song.” New and recent work is on display, including the latest edition of a 30-year project that started in 2010—Virus XI (2020), a prescient pink vortex that speaks to the macro and the micro—the universe and the virus. —E.C.
