The work of Belgian sculptor Berlinde De Bruyckere is elemental and often monumental. Tree trunks and branches are limbs, bodies, and bones. Old cloth is dried cartilage. Wax becomes flesh, vulnerable to heat and pressure. Iron, leather, and epoxy complete the transformations. In “A Single Bed, a Single Room,” De Bruyckere’s feeling for the primeval invades the museum’s “apartment” space. Death and regeneration are her subjects. But mostly, and majestically, death. —L.J.
