The Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan made a big splash last spring conducting the Ring at the Metropolitan Opera, and will become music director of the Vienna Staatsoper in 2020. Rarely heard in New York, Jordan guest conducts the New York Philharmonic this week. Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 opens the program. —M.G.
