 Basquiat produced roughly 600 paintings. Many of these emerged as series\,
  such as the “Cityscapes” or the “Heroes and Saints.” This exhibit
 ion of 60-plus works centers on the series of 11 “Blue Ribbon paintings
 ” from 1984\, so called because they all contain the Pabst Blue Ribbon b
 eer logo and bottle cap. The large-scale compositions are mixed-media\, a 
 combination of acrylic paint\, oil stick\, and screenprint that is an inhe
 rent nod to Robert Rauschenberg and his no-boundaries approach to art maki
 ng. “For Basquiat\, printmaking provided both new creative possibilities
  and connections to a wider artistic network that hasn’t been explored i
 n previous exhibitions or scholarship\,” says the exhibition’s curator
  Jordana Moore Saggese\, a professor of modern and contemporary American a
 rt at the University of Maryland. Almost all of the artist’s known print
  projects are part of the show.
