Barbara Hepworth: Art and Life

Until
The Hepworth Wakefield / Wakefield / Art

“I am the form and I am the hollow, the thrust and the contour.” These are the words of the British sculptor Barbara Hepworth, who carved out a niche for herself in the European avant-garde of the early 20th century. Her lyrical works—made in wood, bronze, and marble—demonstrate her creative depth and technical prowess. In honor of The Hepworth Wakefield’s 10th anniversary, the museum is mounting the most comprehensive retrospective dedicated to the artist in over 40 years. The exhibition tracks the arc of Hepworth’s vast oeuvre, including the famed string sculptures from her W.W. II period and the large-scale bronzes made at the end of her career. —Sabina Vitale
