  The son of a taxi driver\, Lambert left his hometown of Venice for Paris\
 , quickly getting to know Jean-Michel Basquiat\, Cy Twombly\, and Nan Gold
 in. “In a way\, he’s an artist himself\, and I think it’s why he loo
 ks like a loner\,” the artist and poet Etel Adnan said of Lambert\, her 
 close friend. When he announced that the gallery would close in 2014—he 
 cited financial concerns\, but there was also his distaste for an art worl
 d dominated by big money and big hype—many were shocked. Now\, to commem
 orate Lambert’s four decades at 108 rue Vieille du Temple\, a new exhibi
 tion celebrates the connections between Lambert and Zwirner and their shar
 ed artist-centric philosophy. “Most art dealers are either very tough or
  very mannered\,” Adnan recalled. “Yvon is neither—he is his own per
 son.”
