DESCRIPTION:Apr 25 - Sep 27\, 2026\nAnna Casparsson (1861–1961) lived to
be 100\, and spent most of those years in a villa outside Stockholm surrou
nded by luminaries\, who gathered at her grand piano. Throughout her life\
, between concerts and salons\, she produced some of the most extraordinar
y embroideries in history. Re-using pieces of silk and velvet as a foundat
 ion\, Casparsson stitched on pearls\, sequins\, shells\, mirror shards\, t
hreads of silver and gold\, antique lace\, and buttons to create opulent\,
willfully strange compositions. She rarely signed her work\, and gave wha
t she made to friends. It was not until Casparsson was in her 80s that her
first major exhibition was held\, and the last during her lifetime opened
at Moderna Museet the year she turned 99. Now\, for the first time since
1960\, the museum is showing 29 of her textile artworks\, visual worlds dr
awn from folk and biblical stories and classical music.
