Painting has remained in the background of Anish Kapoor’s practice, acting as support for the sculptural projects with which he made his name. The internationally acclaimed artist, born and raised in India before moving to London around 1970 to pursue an arts education, achieved early success after his participation in the XLIV Venice Biennale in 1990. Famous for his public projects such as Cloud Gate (“The Bean”) in Chicago, Kapoor’s most recent body of work blends his signature medium of sculpture with a new fascination for painting. The resulting artworks defy the confinement of traditional painting, detaching from the canvas and invading the viewer’s physical space. Curated with the help of the artist, this exhibition spotlights his new explorations. —Sabina Vitale
