Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella

Gillian Lynne Theatre / London / Stage

What if Prince Charming was out of the picture? This is one of the many ways the Academy Award-winning Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) reimagines Cinderella for a new romantic musical comedy. “It’s true to the fairy tale,” says Andrew Lloyd Webber, who provides the music, but with “real humor, real warmth, and an edge!” Carrie Hope Fletcher stars as a girl who lives in the picture-postcard village, “and finds it,” says Fennell, “just as exhausting as any of us would if we lived in a fairy tale.” Previews begin June 25 at 50 percent capacity. —J.V.
