The title comes from the first line of Virginia Wolf’s 1937 novel The Years—“It was an uncertain spring.” The Museé des Arts Décoratifs is now reopening, but because uncertainty has marked two springs in a row, it opens like a chrysalis, spreading fresh wings. Last fall, the museum invited 40 artists, designers, artisans, and graphic designers to create a moment or interlude that comments on the lost season. These works welcome the world back in. —L.J.
