Tragédie lyrique, which dominated French opera from the late 17th century to the late 18th, can be a stuffy affair. Alcione tells (yawn) of one of those innumerable tragic love triangles only a god can sort out. Yet intermittently, the score displays a vibrancy, color, and dazzle of which the baroque specialist Jordi Savall releases every scintilla. For an extra breath of fresh air, the director Louise Moaty has brought in a troupe of terpsichorean circus acrobats. —M.G.
