When the world seems poised to end with a whimper, music not stridently messianic, but gently Messiaenic, may be just what the shaman ordered. Two hours north of Manhattan, the New York State premiere of this mockingbirdish work by Pulitzer-lauded Alaskan John Luther Adams will be presented in an open-air theater with spaced seating; the day before (August 6), the same ensemble will offer a free ramble through Crelin Park, mingling (in a socially distanced way) with the community while commingling the sounds of nature and art. —E.E.
