A Home for Art, Fashion and Design

Kunstgewerbemuseum / Berlin / Art

Following its complete renovation in 2014, the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts)—the oldest museum of its kind in Germany—now has a permanent exhibition focused on fashion and design. While the fashion gallery holds around 130 costumes from the last 150 years—look for the haute couture of greats like Poiret, Schiaparelli, Dior—the design gallery reminds us of the evolution of the everyday with a display of chairs spanning two centuries. Head down to the ground floor and discover classics from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance until you reach the Art Deco collection, the stained glass of César Klein, and treasures by René Lalique. —Ariella Paradise
