In the 20th century, the top editors of the American fashion glossies were dowager queens, high priestesses, and head girls. The least sung in the grand lineup is Jessica Daves, who led Vogue during a big fashion decade—the 1950s—but never became big herself. The fashion historian Rebecca C. Tuite has a book coming out on the Daves years at Vogue, 1952 to 1962, and sheds sunlight on her subject in a talk at the Y. —L.J.
