Due to the pandemic, the Gwangju Biennale got off to a rocky start. Originally scheduled for last September, then February, the new date the doors open is April 1. The run time will be half as long—a mere 39 days—and because of the two-week quarantine many artists and groups have decided against on-site installations. Still, quite a few of them have pushed on, creating works remotely or embracing virtual formats. The result is an eclectic mix of work by 69 artists. —E.C.
