A sampling of tracks from For the Birds, a new project that proves that we are all birds

By Rebecca Reagan

In conceiving and co-creating For the Birds: The Birdsong Project—the compilation from which these songs come—one of my primary hopes was that it would be a springboard for a new musical category, one that would inspire future generations to dream. That genre, “BYRDSXNG,” is a musical human intervention of sorts, a collaboration with birds themselves. It’s celebratory in nature, and creatively and reverentially honors our winged friends.

Rebecca Reagan is an L.A.-based executive producer, adviser at Kiss the Ground, and co-founder of the Ecuador nonprofit Amazon Healing

Disheartened by the incessant drumbeat of horrid news? These songs—by Jarvis Cocker, the Animals, and others—will evoke the bulldog spirit of the English and give you strength to carry on

By Randall Poster

I find myself in London this week, at work recording a film score. Or, rather, watching a film score be recorded. Nobody is wearing masks, and George Martin’s green Rolls is just a memory to the people here at the studio. But I feel more at home in memory than usual.

Meanwhile, America looks so silly from over here. So I am working on a trade: Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch for David Beckham, Robert Pattinson, and a player to be named later. A blockbuster. If only.

Randall Poster is the Music Supervisor for AIR MAIL

… with the sound of rock ‘n’ roll music. And many of the finest strains on the West Coast were emanating from Dennis Hopper and Brooke Hayward’s house

By Mark Rozzo

Dennis Hopper and Brooke Hayward listened to just about every kind of music. In the 1960s, records spun constantly at their house in the Hollywood Hills, 1712 North Crescent Heights Boulevard, care of a Garrard turntable tucked into a living room lined with works by Warhol, Lichtenstein, Stella, and even Duchamp. Dennis had originally been an ardent jazzbo, befriending Miles Davis, who later hung out at 1712 and created music for the Easy Rider soundtrack (never used). Brooke’s tastes might have been classically inclined, but when she drove the kids to school, she played the latest Top 40 hits, usually on KHJ, 930 AM, which christened itself “Boss Radio.” READ ON
